The Occupy Wall Street protesters have been told by Mike Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, that Zucotti Park will be "cleaned" at 7am today – midday in the UK – and that they will have to leave, taking all their camping equipment with them.
Demonstrators warned last night that they do not intend to simply give in to efforts to clear them from Zuccotti Park. In a statement they said: "We won't allow Bloomberg and the NYPD to foreclose our occupation. This is an occupation, not a permitted picnic.

Pennsylvania’s Capital City Files for Bankruptcy
The City Council of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s financially troubled capital, filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday, a surprise move that was immediately opposed by the mayor and Gov. Tom Corbett, who argued that the filing was illegal under state law.
The filing — which listed debts in excess of $400 million, largely associated with a failed trash incinerator — pitched the city into political confusion.
Council members like Brad Koplinski, who voted for the filing, acknowledged that it was an extraordinary move, but argued that the petition was legal, and even necessary because the mayor’s state-backed plan for financial overhaul had been rejected by the Council. The Council has been locked in battle with Ms. Thompson for months, voting to reject her plan largely on the ground that it demanded too little from creditors.
The petition states that the city is “in imminent jeopardy through six pending legal actions by creditors” who are associated with the city’s failed trash incinerator project, which has saddled the city with debts that are more than quadruple its annual budget. Meeting those legal demands would “substantially interrupt the city’s ability to provide health or safety services to its citizens,” the petition said. The amount of debt, the petition states, “is vastly beyond the ability of the city to pay.”
The filing comes a week before the State Senate is set to consider a bill, already passed by the House, that would authorize Governor Corbett to assume responsibility for most of the city’s finances, something that some members of the Council had been trying to prevent. Under that possibility, the city would be placed in a kind of financial receivership and the governor would choose a manager to steer the process.

Williams was suspended by ESPN and dismissed days later after the country music superstar compared Obama playing golf with John Boehner to Hitler playing golf with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "Not hardly. In the shape this country is in," said Williams.
Williams' claims the decision to part company with ESPN was made by him after ESPN suspended him from Monday Night Football following the airing of the Fox and Friends episode over a week ago.

Williams' claims the decision to part company with ESPN was made by him after ESPN suspended him from Monday Night Football following the airing of the Fox and Friends episode over a week ago.

(CNSNews.com) – A national group representing more than 2,000 military chaplains from evangelical Christian and Orthodox backgrounds said on Wednesday that the Pentagon has launched a “direct assault” on marriage, and the chaplains they endorse will not be allowed to perform same-sex wedding ceremonies under any circumstances.
Dr. Ron Crews, executive director of the newly formed Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, said his 2,000-plus membership is concerned about a Sept. 30 Pentagon memorandum that authorizes chaplains and military chapel facilities to be used for “any private ceremony,” a move that contradicts current federal law, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
“By dishonestly sanctioning the use of federal facilities for ‘marriage counterfeits’ that federal law and the vast majority of Americans have rejected, the Pentagon has launched a direct assault on the fundamental unit of society – husband and wife,” Crews said.
Crews further said his Evangelical membership is in accord with the Catholic Archdiocese for Military Service, headed by Archbishop Timothy Broglio, which said on Tuesday that no Catholic chaplain in the military will be allowed to perform same-sex “marriages” and that same-sex weddings would not be allowed in the Catholic chapel on the grounds of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Catholic Church Threatens White House With "National Conflict of Enormous Proportions" Over Homosexual Marriage
Archbishop Warns Obama: You’ll Cause 'Conflict Between Church and State of Enormous Proportions’
(CNSNews.com) - Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), has written a letter to President Barack Obama warning him that his administration will “precipitate a national conflict between church and state of enormous proportions” if it does not “end its campaign against DOMA, the institution of marriage it protects, and religious freedom.”
The letter follows up on two previous letters that Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, the former president of the USCCB, and Archbishop Dolan sent to Obama privately on the matter. Cardinal George sent his private letter in 2010, according to the USCCB, and Archbishop Dolan sent his earlier this year.
In his letter last week to the president about the marriage issue, Archbishop Dolan indicated that the only “response” he and Cardinal George had received from their previous communications was a stepped up attack on marriage by the administration.
“This past spring the Justice Department announced that it would no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in court, a decision strongly opposed by the Catholic Bishops of the United States and many others,” the archbishop told the president.
The archbishop said that if the federal courts adopt the position the administration is urging on them, then defending traditional marriage will be essentially criminalized in the United States.
Archbishop Dolan concluded his letter sending this analysis to Obama with a warning from him and fellow Catholic bishops.
“The Administration’s failure to change course on this matter will, as the attached analysis indicates, precipitate a national conflict between Church and State of enormous proportions and to the detriment of both institutions,” the archbishop told the president.
“Thus, on behalf of my brother Bishops,” he said, “I urge yet again that your Administration end its campaign against DOMA, the institution of marriage it protects, and religious freedom.”

GREEN BAY — Green Bay Packers fans should arrive early and expect some delays for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos as the team implements heightened security measures for the games at Lambeau Field this season.
The procedure would be similar to wand inspections at the airport, but this process would be less invasive than the full-body exam, said Doug Collins, Packers director of security.
"We think it's a more thorough process, without having the hands-on in particular. We understand there has been some negativity out there from what the (Transportation Security Administration) has done. … This just eliminates that process," Collins said. "Pretty much the whole body will be scanned with the hand wand."

The National Park Service said Monday that the Washington Monument will be closed indefinitely and that the 5.8-magnitude earthquake in August had done more damage to it than had been previously disclosed.
In addition, officials said, the elevator was damaged, possibly by its counterweights, and would need to be repaired. Vogel said the elevator was only partly functional.
He said the worst damage happened in the pyramidium, the pyramid-shaped top of the structure, where cracks up to 11 / 4 inches wide developed in the mortar and stone. “Daylight is visible at a number of the vertical joints where mortar is missing,” he said.
