Court extends stop on order blocking indefinite detention law

A federal appeals court has extended a temporary stay of a district court judge's order barring the government from using an indefinite detention provision in a defense bill passed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama late last year.

A three-judge motions panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit issued the order Tuesday afternoon, indicating they saw flaws with the scope and rationale for U.S. District Court Judge Katherine Forrest's original order blocking the disputed provision of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2011. The judges [wrote]:

First, in its memorandum of law in support of its motion, the government clarifies unequivocally that, 'based on their stated activities,' plaintiffs, 'journalists and activists[,] . . . are in no danger whatsoever of ever being captured and detained by the U.S. military.'

Second, on its face, the statute does not affect the existing rights of United States citizens or other individuals arrested in the United States. See NDAA § 1021(e) ('Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States.').

Third, the language of the district court's injunction appears to go beyond NDAA § 1021 itself and to limit the government's authority under the Authorization for Use of Military Force...

The case will go forward now before what will likely be a different trio of judges, but the stay will likely remain in place pending resolution of the government's appeal...All three judges on the motions panel were appointed to the appeals court by President Barack Obama.

It does not take much conjecture to see that by simply making a claim that any certain individual was NOT acting according to their "stated activities", under this provision, that individual could then be whisked away without due process - indefinitely. The third statement above reinforces this, addressing the subject of 'not limiting' the "use of military force".

On Tuesday afternoon, Reuters obtained an official copy of Romney’s certificate of live birth. Let the record show that Willard Mitt Romney was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 12, 1947. And according to the certificate, Romney’s mother Lenore was born in Utah and his father, former Michigan governor and unsuccessful Republican presidential candidate, George Romney, was born in Mexico.

Another "Certificate Of Live Birth" (COLB) with limited information, as opposed to a long form; not that it matters but it is just like Obama's; and not an original but dated only five months ago (Jan 18, 2012), just like Obama's non-original certificates; and another foreign born father, Mexican this time instead of Kenyan; and more dual citizenship issues too, as seen above, remembering that Obama supposedly has British citizenship questions due to his Kenyan born father being a British subject; as Kenya was under British rule at the time; which citizenship reportedly was then automatically conferred upon Obama, regardless of place of birth.

Romney's father though became a citizen, and actually ran briefly himself in some presidental primaries in the 60's. The two articles discuss that issue. For that reason it is being said by the msm crowd that Romney's natural born citizenship is not being questioned, although it should be noted that to date no definitive determination has ever been made on the exact requirements for "natural born citizenship". It has been pointed out that it appears to be a play on the word "ukulele".

Even the Washington Post describes it like something out of Orwell’s 1984. The FCC has approved a presidential alert system. Obama may soon appear on your television or call your cell phone to warn you about the next specious al-Qaeda underwear bombing event.

Commissioners voted last week to require television and radio stations, cable systems and satellite TV providers to participate in a test that would have them receive and transmit a live code that includes an alert message issued by the president. No date has been set for the test, according to the Post.

If implemented, the president will be able to commandeer your smart phone any time he wants and for any reason the government deems necessary.

Lisa Fowlkes, deputy chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau of the FCC, told FederalNewsRadio on Monday that the FCC is looking at how wireless broadband could also enhance the EAS as part of a recommendation that was in the FCC’s National Broadband Plan from last year. The idea is to hijack broadband and the internet for emergency alerting propaganda with the “Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) being developed by FEMA and the wireless industry,” according to Fowlkes.

The system would break into your computer or wireless device and broadcast presidential propaganda announcements, FEMA reports, so-called “Imminent Threat Alerts,” and AMBER Alerts.

CMAS is slated to begin deployment in April 2012.

National Irish Bank to stop handling cash

One of the country's larger banks has told to its customers that it is to stop handling cash in its branches.National Irish Bank says it is moving to a Scandinavian model of "cashless banking" - with an increased reliance on ATMs and debit cards.

NIB has told customers that its branches will no longer handle cash withdrawals or lodgements, nightsafe lodgements or foreign exchange cash.

The bank says the idea of "cashless banking" will be rolled out over the next 18 months, and that the model is that used by its Danish parent company.

Mufi Hanneman Proposes Renaming Magic Island 'Obama Park'

HONOLULU -- Mayor Mufi Hannemann on Monday sent City Council members a proposal to rename Aina Moana Beach Park, also known as Magic Island, President Barack Obama Beach Park.

The mayor said that the Department of Parks and Recreation would like an amendment to change the requirement that parks, sites or facilities be named on after people who are deceased.

It is the right thing to do because cities all over the country now have streets and parks named after the Hawaii-born president, the mayor's office said. It is silly Hawaii does not have something named after the president since Honolulu is his hometown, spokesman Bill Brennan said.
