Third Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally Saturday, October 20

This peaceful, nationwide event, the third of its kind, will protest the HHS Mandate and other attacks on religious freedom coming from the federal government, especially during this critical election year.

The first two Stand Up Rallies were held on March 23 and June 8 [see below]. Over 300 rallies were held in cities and towns across the country, with attendance topping 125,000.

Each of the October 20 Stand Up for Religious Freedom rallies is being locally sponsored and organized, so no two are quite alike. “We are happy to add the national voice of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to this thoughtful and articulate case for marriage between one man and one woman,” Harrison said in a statement Friday, a day after he signed the letter titled “Marriage and Religious Freedom: Fundamental Goods That Stand or Fall Together.”

Written to all Americans, the letter was signed by 38 other religious leaders from Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, evangelical, Jewish, Lutheran, Pentecostal and even Mormon communities in the United States.

Signers affirm that “the union of one man and one woman as husband and wife - is a matter of the common good and serves the wellbeing of the couple, of children, of civil society and all people.”

Catholic Church Threatens White House With "National Conflict of Enormous Proportions" Over Homosexual Marriage

Archbishop Warns Obama: You’ll Cause 'Conflict Between Church and State of Enormous Proportions’

(CNSNews.com) - Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), has written a letter to President Barack Obama warning him that his administration will “precipitate a national conflict between church and state of enormous proportions” if it does not “end its campaign against DOMA, the institution of marriage it protects, and religious freedom.”

The letter follows up on two previous letters that Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, the former president of the USCCB, and Archbishop Dolan sent to Obama privately on the matter. Cardinal George sent his private letter in 2010, according to the USCCB, and Archbishop Dolan sent his earlier this year.

In his letter last week to the president about the marriage issue, Archbishop Dolan indicated that the only “response” he and Cardinal George had received from their previous communications was a stepped up attack on marriage by the administration.

“This past spring the Justice Department announced that it would no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in court, a decision strongly opposed by the Catholic Bishops of the United States and many others,” the archbishop told the president.

The archbishop said that if the federal courts adopt the position the administration is urging on them, then defending traditional marriage will be essentially criminalized in the United States.

Archbishop Dolan concluded his letter sending this analysis to Obama with a warning from him and fellow Catholic bishops.

“The Administration’s failure to change course on this matter will, as the attached analysis indicates, precipitate a national conflict between Church and State of enormous proportions and to the detriment of both institutions,” the archbishop told the president.

“Thus, on behalf of my brother Bishops,” he said, “I urge yet again that your Administration end its campaign against DOMA, the institution of marriage it protects, and religious freedom.”

At the exact moment that Obama was sworn in, back in Jan. '09, the White House web site was updated revealing the plans of the new administration. At the top of the list was the call to repeal DOMA [here].

Which is to say that there is absolutely zero chance of a "cease and desist" with regard to their sworn goal of doing just that - repealing DOMA.

Organized by California pastor Jim Garlow and Prison Fellowship founder Chuck Colson, Pray & Act has gained support from a cross-section of Christians, including Bible teacher Kenneth Copeland, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Generals International co-founder Cindy Jacobs, Southern Baptist Convention leader Richard Land, Atlanta pastor Creflo Dollar and Campus Crusade for Christ co-founder Vonette Bright.

In addition to prayer, the effort calls on Christians to "act" by conforming their lives to biblical values, and transforming the culture through evangelism and compassion ministry. Supporters also are being asked to sign the Manhattan Declaration, a document released last November that affirms the sanctity of life, traditional marriage and religious liberty. More than 470,000 people have signed it so far, and Garlow hopes to bring the number to 1 million.

He said Pray & Act is a spiritual movement. "But you can't divorce a stand for life and marriage from a political stand," Engle told Charisma. "Because you're saying, ‘Over my dead body I will stand on the truth that marriage is between a man and a woman, and you cannot shed the innocent blood of babies.'"

We Can Still Win This Thing: The Court and Public Opinion

I've spent the days following the ruling in the proposition 8 case, praying, reading, and thinking. My first reaction was, "Our worst nightmare has come true." A federal judge declaring that the "ability to marry" is a fundamental right that cannot be denied to gays and lesbians. What nonsense.

Folks, there is still hope-but only if we get to work now. The issue is far from settled. The next stop is the Ninth Circuit, the most liberal court in America, where it likely will be affirmed. But then it's on to the Supreme Court.

And the polls show that the American people still do not accept gay marriage. That matters because the Court is reluctant to go against strong public opinion to the contrary.

So, can we win this in the court of public opinion? Yes we can! If the polls show a year from now when this case makes its way to the Supreme Court that the public is against gay marriage, we will win. And this decision in California this week could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

But for that to happen, we have got to mobilize. That means educating ourselves and informing our neighbors. That means getting active in our churches. And you can go to the Manhattan Declaration.org website and sign on, as 460,000 people already have. Tell everyone you know about the website. And send them there as well for information on what we can do to mobilize. And get ready for a campaign of prayer and fasting coming up this fall.

Enough of saying to ourselves let somebody else do it: We've got to wake up and get busy. Not only traditional marriage, but our religious and personal liberties depend on it.

In a seeming contradiction to that goal, today's call [12-2-09] is for the Episcopal, Lutheran, and the UCC (United Church of Christ) to join the cause. 150,000 Sign Manhattan Declaration in Less than a Week

The unprecedented pro-life, pro-marriage and pro-religious freedom Manhattan Declaration, unveiled in a press conference last Friday, has already been signed by over 150,000 individuals in less than a week, and the numbers are continuing to rise by the second.

The 4,700-word "Manhattan Declaration: A Call of Christian Conscience" was drafted by Dr. Robert George, Dr. Timothy George and Chuck Colson. At the time of its release last week it was signed by more than 125 prominent religious figures, including figures from Orthodox, Catholic and evangelical Christian denominations. That number has now risen to over 170, including 18 Roman Catholic bishops, in addition to the 150,000 ordinary Christians.

Colson says he hopes that the document will eventually be signed by more than 1,000,000 individuals, which, given its current momentum, hardly seems out of the question.

The Declaration is a non-denominational statement that throws down the gauntlet to a secular culture that is increasingly encroaching upon the rights of Christians who hold to traditional moral values, especially on the issues of marriage and the right to life. "We pledge to each other, and to our fellow believers," says the document, "that no power on earth, be it cultural or political, will intimidate us into silence or acquiescence."

The enormous popularity of the document appears to arise largely from its ability to bind together Christians from diverse theological and denominational backgrounds to fight for a common cause - the right to life, the preservation of true marriage, and the right to religious liberty.

In the U.K., where the rights of Christians are under attack more fiercely than almost anywhere else in the West, Telegraph writer Gerald Warner wrote that, "For harassed, demoralised faithful in the pews [the Manhattan Declaration] will come as the long-awaited call to resistance and an earnest (sic) that their leaders are no longer willing to lie down supinely to be run over by the anti-Christian juggernaut."

For too many reasons to list here [go here], true Christianity cannot recognize Catholic doctrine as fulfilling the requirements necessary to be called 'Christian'. That may not sit well with some, but nevertheless it is true. There is a wide discrepancy between the Catholic religion and biblical Christianity. To surrender that ground, as does this "unprecendented" Manhattan Declaration, from the vantage point of true biblical Christianity, is heresy plain and simple.

Another huge problem is the position taken as exemplified by the phrase in the document stating: "We pledge...that no power on earth, be it cultural or political, will intimidate us into silence or acquiescence."

Christians are not called to militate against the powers of this world. This is deception of the highest order. The preaching of the gospel in this world is not a manifesto to change the world, which is still at this time Satan's domain, but is an outcalling - a gospel call, not to fix, but to come out of this corrupted world, i.e the forgotten Christian 'doctrine of separation'. Fleeing the wrath to come...if you will [cf. Luke/Matt. 3:7].

The NT Greek word for 'church' is 'ekklesia' (ek-klay-see'-ah): "a calling out" [Strong's]. Christians are not to wrestle with the 'powers' that be on this earth, with flesh and blood that is, for they have been "called out". The true Christian calling is a heavenly calling: "Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling..." [Heb. 3:1] - not a quote "throwing down the gauntlet".

Why I Signed The Manhattan Declaration by R. Albert Mohler, Jr.

The signatories to The Manhattan Declaration include evangelical leaders, as well as leaders from the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox churches.

I signed The Manhattan Declaration because I believe it is an historic statement of conviction and courage that is both timely and urgent.

I signed The Manhattan Declaration because I lead a theological seminary and college, serve as a teaching pastor in a church, and am engaged in Christian leadership in the public square.

I signed The Manhattan Declaration because it is a limited statement of Christian conviction on these three crucial issues, and not a wide-ranging theological document that subverts confessional integrity... We remain who we are, and we concede no doctrinal ground.

Finally, I signed The Manhattan Declaration because I want to put my name on its final pledge -- that we will not bend the knee to Caesar.

A few brief comments:

Despite Mohler's disclaimers to the contrary, e.g. "conceding no doctrinal ground" (see full article), a signed statement of unity is just that.

The root of the problem in the reasoning used to defend the signing of this 'non-unity' unity document is the mistaken Dominionist-Christian notion of 'fixing' and/or 'saving' and/or 'changing' this present world. This present world is still under the dominion of Satan (2 Cor. 4:4), and will not be either fixed, saved, or changed, until, and only when, the Lord Jesus Christ returns and overthrows the

'...principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places' (Eph. 6:12).

These evil entities are the real governors of this present world system, and they of course are not to be reformed. It is utterly foolish to think otherwise, and every attempt at the 'reforming of this world' will prove to be completely futile.

The fixing, saving, changing of the world will be accomplished with no help from man, but by he alone who is "called Faithful and True" [Rev. 19:11], the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ upon his return: "And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations" [and after this is done] "he shall rule them with a rod of iron..." (Rev. 19:15). Then, and only then.

Any other 'endtime' scenario will prove to be bitter deception. The false doctrine of Dominionist Theology has opened wide that door to bitter deception for a vast number of professing Christians. They are being led, by their 'leaders', into the New-World-Order.

A formidable coalition of 150 Catholic, Orthodox and evangelical leaders are calling on Christians in a new manifesto to reject secular authority – and even engage in civil disobedience – if laws force them to accept abortion, same-sex marriage and other ideas that betray their religious beliefs.

On Friday, these leaders released a 4,700-word document – called the "The Manhattan Declaration: A Call of Christian Conscience."

The document was signed by leaders ranging from evangelical leader Chuck Colson to two of the leading Catholic prelates in the U.S., Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C. and Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York, and calls on Christians to engage in civil disobedience to defend their doctrines.

"We are Orthodox, Catholic, and evangelical Christians who have united at this hour to reaffirm fundamental truths about justice and the common good, and to call upon our fellow citizens, believers and non-believers alike, to join us in defending them," says the declaration, which was drafted by Colson, an evangelical, and Princeton University professor Robert P. George, a Roman Catholic.

"Because we honor justice and the common good," it states, "we will not comply with any edict that purports to compel our institutions to participate in abortions, embryo-destructive research, assisted suicide or euthanasia or any other anti-life act; nor will we bend to any rule purporting to force us to bless immoral sexual partnerships, treat them as marriages or the equivalent, or refrain from proclaiming the truth, as we know it, about morality and immorality and marriage and the family."

George and other signers backed off from specifically defining what civil disobedience may entail. Wuerl's office played down the civil disobedience wording, saying he wasn't urging Catholics to "do anything specific," his spokeswoman Susan Gibbs told The Washington Post. "That wasn't something we had talked about."
