Is Awana naive about contemplative spirituality? If so, then we beseech them to educate themselves and request a recall on their book, Perspectives on Children's Spiritual Formation. In the February 2008 edition of The Berean Call newsletter a question was asked about Awana:
"I've heard that Awana is drifting toward mysticism in the way they are ministering to children. What do you know about that?"
The Berean Call gave an excellent answer, stating that the issue arose from a book titled, Perspectives on Children's Spiritual Formation. Two leaders in the Awana organization are contributors of the book, and comments they made promoting the contemplative approach have caused concern for the direction Awana may be heading.

This is not a new development in the Awana organization, but is the result of slow incremental change over the past few years. It is an ongoing "shifting", the same thing that is happening in churches and Christian schools and colleges across the land. This "shifting" is by design, and it is important to understand that this 'change process' is an ongoing project, with the final goal being the convergence of the world's religions into the global model of an inclusive universal spirituality. In other words, it won't stop here but will certainly continue to 'morph', as is happening in every sphere of society today. Suggestion: it's time to get off the bus Gus!
see also: awana-being-shifted . This is a short article, with a few quotes from the Awana website showing the new direction the organization is being 'taken' e.g.
- At Awana, we believe it’s time to rethink ministry and discipleship for kids:
- Awana becoming a 'global brand' name!
- Revolutionary new book!
- "Raising kids who know, love and serve Christ isn’t just a parent’s job or the church’s responsibility. It requires a partnership
The issues are serious and must be faced by any who either have children involved with the program or are themselves 'leaders'. Ignorance of the issues is unacceptable. Nothing can be taken for granted any longer, as evidenced by the christian-school-betrayal happening in the ACSI. This is no different!

Gal. 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
