Could Food Safety Bill Clear Senate By Weekend?
The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, S. 510, will be brought to the floor of the U.S. Senate Wednesday for a procedural vote and party leaders expect it to pass, The Hill news site reported late Sunday. Passage of the bill by the weekend is now possible.

The House passed H.R. 2749, the Food Safety Enhancement Act, in July 2009 with a strong bipartisan vote of 283-142. It is the House's companion version to S 510, but a conference committee with Senate will be required to reconcile a final bill for the President's signature.

If the bill does go to the floor on Wednesday, credit will go to Majority Leader Harry Reid, who filed a cloture motion [prevents filibuster w/60 votes] for S. 510 before the election break, putting it in a position for potential action in the lame duck session of Congress.

If some version of the House /Senate food safety reforms does become law, it would bring stepped up inspection of both foreign and domestic food processors, grant FDA mandatory recall authority, and require joint planning by FDA and USDA for stronger food safety.

It is a tremendous amount of additional enforcement (fines and penalties, license revocations, further license requirements, control over processes and harvest) which are definite issues with the bill as it currently exists.

“Here’s why….In S 510, the FDA is instructed to follow all international agreements. One of the issues with international ‘guidelines and standards’ is “Good Agricultural Practices”. Well those are not necessarily good. Most GAP certifying bodies have checklists about 25 pages long for growers to follow. They all require traceability (i.e., NAIS) they also require auditing, verifying and certifying the processes used to produce a consumable product for human or animal feed. Every step in GAP costs the grower of food money and a good deal of paperwork.

Mad Scientists Release GM Mosquitoes In Cayman Islands

Scientists release genetically modified mosquitoes

London - Scientists have released genetically modified mosquitoes in an experiment to fight dengue fever in the Cayman Islands, British experts said Thursday.

It is the first time genetically altered mosquitoes have been set loose in the wild, after years of laboratory experiments and hypothetical calculations. But while scientists believe the trial could lead to a breakthrough in stopping the disease, critics argue the mutant mosquitoes might wreak havoc on the environment.

Researchers at Oxitec Limited, an Oxford-based company, created sterile male mosquitoes by manipulating the insects' DNA. Scientists in the Cayman Islands released 3 million mutant male mosquitoes to mate with wild female mosquitoes of the same species. That meant they wouldn't be able to produce any offspring, which would lower the population. Only female mosquitoes bite humans and spread diseases.

For years, scientists have been working to create mutant mosquitoes to fight diseases like malaria and dengue, which they say could stop outbreaks before they start. But, others suspect it could be an environmental nightmare.

"If we remove an insect like the mosquito from the ecosystem, we don't know what the impact will be," said Pete Riley, campaign director of GM Freeze, a British non-profit group that opposes genetic modification.

He said mosquito larvae might be food for other species, which could starve if the larvae disappear. Or taking out adult mosquito predators might open up a slot for other insect species to slide in, potentially introducing new diseases.

The world won't follow slow-growth, weak-dollar America.

Has there ever been a major economic summit where a U.S. President and his Treasury Secretary were as thoroughly rebuffed as they were at this week's G-20 meeting in Seoul? We can't think of one. President Obama failed to achieve any of his main goals while getting pounded by other world leaders for failing U.S. policies and lagging growth.

The root of this embarrassment is political and intellectual: Rather than leading the world from a position of strength, Mr. Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner came to Seoul blaming the rest of the world for U.S. economic weakness.

The American failure was most acute on trade, as the U.S. and South Korea couldn't agree on a bilateral pact that the two countries had signed three years ago.

None of this should be cause for celebration, because a world without American leadership is a more dangerous place. The U.S. is still the world's largest economy, the issuer of its reserve currency, and its lone military superpower. No other nation has the will or capacity to lead the way the U.S. has for 70 years, so faltering American influence will produce a vacuum in which every nation can seek narrow advantage.

The world will follow American leadership again only when it sees policies that restore robust U.S. economic growth.

President and Treasury Secretary "thoroughly rebuffed" as never before seen

America takes a beat-down before the entire world. Obama got "pounded" by other world leaders - is the report coming out of Seoul Korea after the fifth G20 meeting wrapped up. Obama "failed to achieve any of his main goals"...it was an embarrassment, according to the Wall Street Journal.

And what is the moral of the story? Very simple - America is diminished in the eyes of the world as the 'dominant power', exactly as planned. California's Bay Bridge shut down by man who claimed explosives in car

A MAN who claimed he had explosives in his car and caused an hour-long standoff with police on California's Bay Bridge was facing felony charges today.

All westbound morning rush-hour traffic on the bridge was brought to a halt as the San Francisco bomb squad, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and hostage negotiators responded to the scene.

Craig Carlos-Valentino, 51, pulled over on the upper deck of the Bay Bridge, which connects San Francisco and Oakland, and called police around 7am local time, claiming he had a pipe bomb in his SUV, KTVU-TV said.

He was allegedly threatening to kill himself and blow up the bridge but was talked into surrendering around an hour later. Soon after, police discovered that he had no explosives in his car.

Cigarette Packages Must Carry Graphic Images, e.g. Corpses, Lungs

Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Altria Group Inc., Reynolds American Inc. and other cigarette sellers in the U.S. must place graphic images such as corpses and diseased lungs on the warning labels of packages and in advertisements to highlight smoking risks.

The warnings, required under a law passed last year, are an important step toward reducing cigarette-related illnesses, FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said at a news conference.

Cigarettes can’t be sold in the U.S. after Oct. 22, 2012, without the labels pairing images with text such as “Smoking can kill you.”

The proposed images include photos of dead bodies, rotting teeth, cancerous lungs and children exposed to second-hand smoke. The graphics would cover 50 percent of the front and back of cigarette packages and 20 percent of print ads, Hamburg said

Altria’s Philip Morris USA of Richmond, Virginia, the biggest U.S. cigarette maker, broke with rivals Reynolds and Lorillard Tobacco Co. to back the law as a way to standardize manufacturing requirements and spur development of less-harmful tobacco products.

Reynolds and Lorillard are among tobacco companies seeking to overturn the 2009 law’s graphic warning-label requirements. Altria isn’t part of the lawsuit.

It’s unconstitutional for the government to “confiscate the top 50 percent of both sides of cigarette packaging and mandate shocking color graphics,” Reynolds and Lorillard said in September in a brief filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Cincinnati.

Owning the entire planet at that point, precious metals, jewels etc. would have little value and wealth would then be determined by how many slaves are owned. Researching Peter Drucker and the term "knowledge worker" will prove these things true.

The building of Drucker's "global-management system" is very evident here. Firstly, trashing the constitution. It has absolutely no place in the coming global empire. Secondly, manufacturing must be "standardized" because this puts control in the hands of government and is essential for making each separate industry a part of the global system, and then of course, disallowing 'knowledge workers' i.e slaves to make their own decisions. Being the property of the cabalist-elite, they will be managed in such a way as to achieve the highest production and greatest efficiency. Smoking will not be permitted apparently, or 'happy meals' for that matter.

"Knowledge workers" will be maintained in 'sustainable communities' and given all the benefits of solar power and wind energy. Slave plantations in other words. Here is the real 'why' of all things green-agenda related.

Homeland Security tightens rules for air cargo

The new rules also affect items deemed high-risk that are shipped on cargo planes. Napolitano said such cargo will go through additional screening before it is loaded. A spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) declined to define "high-risk" cargo, other than to say it isn't limited to that shipped from countries that have been linked to terrorist activity.

Napolitano said Monday her agency is working with the airline industry on a plan for handing over cargo manifests more quickly so authorities could scrutinize a plane's contents more closely.

The Obama administration is working with major corporations in the $100 billion global air freight industry to shore up security. Napolitano called four of the country's biggest shipping companies last week to discuss improvements.

"But this call for 100 percent screening, I wonder if it can even get done."

He said a more likely scenario involves souped-up data mining of potential high-risk packages.

Climate scientists plan campaign against global warming skeptics

The American Geophysical Union plans to announce that 700 researchers have agreed to speak out on the issue. Other scientists plan a pushback against congressional conservatives who have vowed to kill regulations on greenhouse gas emissions.

John Abraham of St. Thomas University in Minnesota, who last May wrote a widely disseminated response to climate change skeptics, is also pulling together a "climate rapid response team," which includes scientists prepared to go before what they consider potentially hostile audiences on conservative talk radio and television shows.

"This group feels strongly that science and politics can't be divorced and that we need to take bold measures to not only communicate science but also to aggressively engage the denialists and politicians who attack climate science and its scientists," said Scott Mandia, professor of physical sciences at Suffolk County Community College in New York.

- We encourage the production of an interfaith resource book and of joint teaching tools on Islam and Christianity for the use of religious teachers, imams and clergy, and their translation and dissemination worldwide.

- We call on those who fund and manage universities and colleges of religious training to support the establishment of teaching and research programmes in the major religions with a view to encouraging positive interreligious relations.

- We call on the media to assume their responsibility to provide balanced coverage of the issues which concern us.

San Francisco Bans The McDonalds Happy Meal

San Francisco has become the first major U.S. city to pass a law that cracks down on the popular practice of giving away free toys with unhealthy restaurant meals for children.

San Francisco's Board of Supervisors passed the law on Tuesday on a veto-proof 8-to-3 vote. It takes effect on December 1.The San Francisco law would allow toys to be given away with kids' meals that have less than 600 calories, contain fruits and vegetables, and include beverages without excessive fat or sugar.

"Our children are sick. Rates of obesity in San Francisco are disturbingly high, especially among children of color," said San Francisco Supervisor Eric Mar, who sponsored the measure.

"This is a challenge to the restaurant industry to think about children's health first and join the wide range of local restaurants that have already made this commitment," Mar said..

The Center for Science in the Public Interest [?] this summer threatened to sue McDonald's if it did not stop using Happy Meal toys to lure children into its restaurants. A lawyer for that group said it is on track to file the lawsuit in the next several weeks.

Christians, Muslims Gather to Build a Common Future

Christian and Muslim leaders are gathered in Geneva for a high-level interfaith dialogue on how to build strong and sustainable relationships between the two groups and how the religious communities can use their resources to transform their communities.

The four-day event titled, “Transforming Communities: Christians and Muslims Building a Common Future,” is inspired by the historic 2007 letter by 138 Muslim scholars called, “A Common Word” [here]. Dr. Muhammad Ahmed Al-Sharif, general secretary of the World Islamic Call Society, and His Royal Highness, Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad bin Talal of Jordan, the initiator of the letter, are attending the event that is being hosted at the World Council of Churches’ Ecumenical Center.

Four key challenges facing the Muslim-Christian communities are: how to build a wider sense of the understanding of the word “we” that focuses on everyone being part of one humanity rather than excluding people; how to build strong and sustainable relationships between Muslim and Christian leaders that prevent crises and address challenges together; how to transform communities through wise use of spiritual and religious resources; and how to build good and peaceful relationships between Christians and Muslims, according to Tveit.

The “Transforming Communities” consultation was joined by representatives of Christian world communions, including the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Protestant Evangelical and Pentecostal traditions.

A joint statement will be issued at the end of the consultation on Nov. 4.

TSA to overhaul screening methods after bomb attack

Washington….Scrambling to plug holes in cargo security revealed by the mail bomb plot in Yemen, the Transportation Security Administration announced Tuesday it was planning an overhaul of its passenger and cargo screening methods.

The Yemen plot highlighted the capabilities of a "determined and creative enemy" Pistole said at a meeting of the global air industry in Frankfurt. He said he would "reshape our security approach," to improve the agency's focus on intelligence and new technology.

For air cargo security, DHS officials are exploring beefing up data mining methods similar to those used to identify dangerous people on flights for selecting dangerous cargo for screening.

There are some cargo companies that don't have the data of every parcel that has been consolidated into its pallet containers. However the big shipping companies, like FedEx and UPS, are able to give the U.S. the data in the electronic shipping record for every parcel. This includes names, addresses and phone numbers.

"Maybe there is a changing tone at TSA, there is an understanding that screening alone for items in past attacks may not be enough for a future attacks," said Rick Nelson, director of the homeland security and counterterrorism program at CSIS. Cargo is different from passenger, said Nelson, "the cost to screen all the cargo in the global systems is unaffordable and impractical. You can't do that, have to take a new approach."

Every package delivered anywhere on the planet into the databank.

Georgia Megachurch Pastor Reveals He's Gay

The pastor of a Georgia megachurch with thousands of followers, who was twice married and is a father of four, is speaking out about his recent decision to publicly declare he is gay.

The 52-year-old founder of Church in the Now in Conyers, Ga., said he's coming out to help stem the recent tide of gay suicides in America and won't be swayed by some hateful messages that have been written about him online.

Online, those hateful messages have been drowned out by an outpouring of support. Swilley has recently reached his 5,000-friend limit on Facebook and his wall is adorned with praise for his decision to come out.

The name of our church is 'Church in the Now' and that name really becomes prophetic for us. We'll just have to take it one day at a time," Swilley told WSB-TV.

With perfect Cabalist-timing, another big-name Laodicean, Jim Swilley, signs up to tag-team with Eddie Long in the deviant-cause to homosexualize Christianity. With these two 'scripts' running simultaneously, the stage is now set for some major 'homosexual chaos' in Christendom.

Very interesting to note that Long's statement is a denial of 'sexual misconduct', but still apparently no actual denial of homosexual activity. It is clearly a purposely vague statement. Note especially that because the legal age in Georgia is 16, no criminal charges are possible. Very convenient. The issue then becomes the question of 'coercion' - whether or not there was an abuse of power and authority. Since Long has only denied "sexual misconduct", it leaves the definite possibility that he is in fact only denying 'coercion'.

This fits the scheme perfectly allowing for a well coordinated tag-team effort. While Swilley with his proud 'public declaration' deflects attention and softens up the opposition with his save the gay-youth 'anti-bullying' angle, Long can then take a more round-about approach to accomplishing the goal.

It is a cabalist-conspired strategy to create the 'chaos' where the 'homosexual-conversation' can be tossed back and forth openly, causing opponents to give a little ground. And give a little ground they will, because if they do not, they will suffer the disapproval of the group and be marginalized. Once the first point is conceded, you have already lost the war. This is the Hegelian dialectic. It has been 'unleashed' on the Christian world to force homosexual acceptance.

'What do you think'...is always the strategy. 'Maybe we need to take another look at this'...is always the suggestion, and if you take the bait, it is all downhill after that. Long is a 'bold revolutionary spiritual leader" you know...(he said so himself)...this is 2010...etc., you do want to be part of the "Church in the Now" don't you? ...and on it goes.

One thing must be understood Christian. If you stay in the 'conversation'...you will have to give ground because if you do not you cannot stay in (see how that works?), and by staying in, you will go down with the ship. The situation is critical, and it's still early. It is going to get a lot messier.
