U.S. - Mexico Borderline, Borderline Bar, and Now A Borderline Fire...All At Same Time - As Above So Below Ritual?

[Saturday AM 11-10-18; excerpted] The Woolsey Fire continues to burn out of control for a third day in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties on Saturday, but calmer winds are helping in the ongoing firefight.

The blaze doubled in size overnight to 70,000 acres and is 0 percent contained, according to fire officials.

Around 250,000 residents in both counties have been evacuated. Authorities said that number could grow as evacuations continue to happen.

The fast-moving Woolsey Fire jumped the 101 Freeway at Liberty Canyon Road early Friday, which led the blaze to rapidly make its way toward several populated communities.

But the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a statement Thursday that said about half are single men and at least 270 have criminal histories. It is not clear how they made that determination or how they arrived at that number.

In sending troops to the border, President Trump told the military that if they face rock-throwing migrants, they should react as though the rocks were "rifles" — a statement he later walked back.

But unlike a human border guard, the AI system is analyzing minute micro-gestures in the traveler’s facial expression, searching for any signs that they might be telling a lie. In Southern California, an earthquake could trigger an underwater avalanche in the Santa Monica Bay, producing a tsunami that could inundate low-lying areas of Santa Monica and the South Bay towns of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach, said Costas Synolakis...

“This is exactly the scenario we are afraid of in Southern California,” Synolakis said, “where we are going to get an on-land earthquake … and the biggest shaking triggers a submarine landslide...”

In Los Angeles County, a locally generated tsunami could bring water as high as 11 feet in Redondo Beach, 8 feet at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, 7 feet in Manhattan Beach and 5 feet in Marina del Rey.

Friday’s tsunami was seen as unusual. The largest tsunamis in the world are generated from what’s known as subduction zones, in which one tectonic plate slides underneath another. Earthquakes on subduction zones can generate vertical motion that propel tsunamis to land.

But this tsunami was generated after a quake began on land on a strike-slip fault — the same kind of fault like the San Andreas, where one block of land slides past the other horizontally. This produces horizontal movement not typically associated with large tsunamis, yet is still possible, as Friday’s disaster showed.

There are other possible explanations for why a tsunami hit Palu so hard. One is that the bay starting moving back and forth, like someone shaking a mug filled with coffee, leaving the liquid to slosh onto land, Synolakis said.

Another possibility is that the fault movement caused just one side of the bay to move, pushing water toward the other side, Synolakis said.

The new pact, which is being called the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement [USMCA]

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in late August that officials are planning to sign with their Canadian and Mexican counterparts by the end of November — a date that would also satisfy Mexico, which is eager to have current President Enrique Peña Nieto sign the deal before his successor takes over Dec. 1.

A formal vote in Congress won’t be held until 2019, and it is still an open question whether lawmakers — including members of the president's own party who have often clashed with him on trade — will fall in line to support the deal.

The new U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement is acronymed USMCA. Could that end up becoming the actual name for what in the past has been loosely refereed to as the NAU - North American Union. The agreement was made Sunday 9-30-18. Very little in the way of details have been released and the finalization is a ways off, so not much is really known at this point.

Miss America Says Transgender Women Should Be Allowed To Compete

Nia Imani Franklin, representing New York state, was crowned the 98th Miss America in Atlantic City on September 9...The North Carolina native is making the media rounds and opened up about the ban against transgender women competing in the competition.

Franklin responded, “That’s something I haven’t given a lot of thought to. I could see the organization may be going into a different direction in the future, but at this time our goal is just to focus on women who want to further their education.”

She continued, “If trans women want to compete I think they should be able to — that’s not something I think we are really putting too much emphasis on as far as, ‘Are you trans? Check this box’ when you compete. When I competed, in my application, there was nothing that asked me if I was a trans woman or not, so we’re definitely not discriminating.”
