S.Korea joins global rescue, crisis summit planned
SINGAPORE/LONDON (Reuters) - South Korea joined efforts on Sunday to shore up banks and markets pummeled by the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression which world leaders said called for a coordinated global response.

U.S. President George W. Bush said on Saturday he would host the first crisis summit, due to be held soon after a November 4 presidential election.

"Later summits would be designed to implement agreement on specific steps," the statement said, adding that other world leaders would be contacted beginning next week.

Passports will be needed to buy mobile phones in UK
Everyone who buys a mobile telephone will be forced to register their identity on a national database under government plans to extend massively the powers of state surveillance.

Emergency declarations smooth way for vaccine makers
In a little noticed move, federal officials this month have declared a series of public health emergencies relating to potential weapons of biological terror.

But by declaring these public health emergencies, HHS has granted manufacturers of anti-terrorism drugs and vaccines and others involved with the products protection from lawsuits if the drugs were to cause unfortunate side effects.

“It gives the manufacturers and other people involved a ‘get out of jail free’ card,” said Joan Claybrook, president of Washington-based Public Citizen.

The HHS secretary can trigger the protections by declaring that a public health emergency exists or that there’s a “credible risk” of one in the future.

And legal immunity can apply to anyone involved in the development, testing, manufacture or distribution of the drugs. Also covered is anyone who prescribes, dispenses or administers the drugs, including state and local government officials.

3rd Birth Certificate Lawsuit Against Obama Filed In Hawaii

Hawaii lawsuit targets Obama document

The lawsuit was filed yesterday in state Circuit Court by Internet columnist and author Andy Martin.

The lawsuit filed in Honolulu seeks to have the court order the state to turn over a copy of Obama's birth certificate, and related files and records.

The lawsuit names Gov. Linda Lingle and Dr. Chiyome Fukino, health department director.

"But pursuant to the Hawai'i Revised Statutes, vital records are confidential and it would violate the law to release them to anyone except the individuals listed in the section," Bennett said.

The suit claims that because Obama is a presidential candidate, releasing his birth certificate is a "topic of intense national speculation."

BRUSSELS, Oct 16, 2008 (AFP) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy was handed a mandate by his EU colleagues Thursday to push for a complete overhaul of the financial system at a summit with US counterpart George W. Bush this weekend.

"We do not have the right to miss this opportunity for reconstructing our system of finance in the 21st century," Sarkozy said at the end of a two-day summit in Brusssels dominated by the financial crisis. "We have a mandate now to discuss this with the President of the United States."

Sarkozy, who is due to hold talks with Bush at his Camp David retreat on Saturday, was speaking after the 27 EU leaders endorsed calls for an overhaul of the financial system in the wake of the turmoil on financial markets.

"How many currencies should there be? What should the relationship be between the currencies? All of these things have to be discussed.

"I really do think that all of these subjects have to be put on the table, we have to arrive at initial conclusions for a summit in November."

Australians will be unable to opt-out of the government's pending Internet content filtering scheme, and will instead be placed on a watered-down blacklist, experts say.

Under the government's $125.8 million Plan for Cyber-Safety, users can switch between two blacklists which block content inappropriate for children, and a separate list which blocks illegal material.

The government will iron-out policy and implementation of the Internet content filtering software following an upcoming trial of the technology, according to the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

A spokesman for Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said the filters will be mandatory for all Australians.
EFA chair Dale Clapperton said in a previous article that Internet content filtering could lead to censorship of drugs, political dissident and other legal freedoms.

“Once the public has allowed the system to be established, it is much easier to block other material,” Clapperton said.

Mandatory starting in Australia... no dates given in the article. A new law in the U.S. giving ISP's the legal right to 'filter' all content and a precedent of legal penalties for "knowingly" permitting illegal content. With the new software there will be no possibility of any successful defense were one of the ISP's to claim no knowledge. Every single file can be monitored we are told. This simply means that that threat is a joke and the filtering will be happening...and will obviously soon include other types of content deemed objectionable to the 666er's.

Big Brother has opened the door and is preparing to begin controlling all accessible information. It doesn't take a genius to see what this is about and where it is going. The Morning Star And The Dawning of Day

Matt 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

A thought provoking little sermonette on the topic of living in the expectation of the imminent return of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and the practical outworkings that this blessed hope should have in our daily lives. As the author mentions, this little 'sermonette' was written approximately fifty years after the initial sounding of the 'midnight cry' was first heard. The church had slumbered and fallen asleep through the long years of the so-called dark ages from AD 400 or so (Matt. 25:5); up to and until they finally gave way to the 'reformation period' with the call of Martin Luther who was to wrest Christendom from the iron grip of Rome and the Papacy, starting in the early 1500's. It was not until approximately the 1830's though that the Holy Ghost roused the church from her slumber as to the reality of the imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ for his 'bride' (Matt. 25:1-13). This is considered historically as the point when the "midnight cry" of the Bridegroom's coming first echoed throughout the Christian church worldwide. In retrospect we understand that this period was in fact the "midnight hour" of church history. The hour had come and the cry went forth across the land "to arise" and "go ye out to meet him." (Matt. 25:6-7) There was then much excitement, and these few paragraphs below give us a wonderful feel of what that time was like, and on up to the time when fifty years afterwards the author wrote this exhortation.

121 years later now and the warning cry has been heard by all who have ears to hear. The church is no longer in the midnight hour, but the night has passed giving way to a new period of church history, which is proving to be the approaching of the dawn with the first glimpse of the morning star. The dawn will pass quickly though ushering in all the events leading up to and surrounding the millennial 'day' of Christ. Judgment upon the world must come first, followed afterward by the establishment of the thousand year rule and reign of Christ.

But before the day comes the dawn. It is in the early morning at the dawning of the new day when the bright and morning star appears, the Lord Jesus Christ (Rev. 22:16), to take his own to be where he is, to his Father's house where there are many mansions (John 14:1-3). He, the bridegroom, will come for the 'wise virgins' whose lamps have not gone out but are still burning bright in that early morning scene of the coming glory to be revealed. Matt. 25:8-10; cf. 2 Peter 1:19;

Waiting and Watching

"Ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord . . . . Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching." Luke 12:36-37

Our Lord would have us "watch" as well as "wait" for His coming. Both imply spiritual activity. Waiting souls are certainly not sleeping; for waiting according to our Lord's mind must be with girded loins, diligence in His service, and lights burning, thus bearing clear testimony to Him in the power of the Holy Spirit during the darkness of the night.

There seems, however, to be something more earnest and definite in watching than in waiting, though all who are watching are also waiting for Him. We can understand three persons having heard that a well-known friend is expected to land at a certain seaport. One of them seems much interested at the intelligence, but it does not produce any alteration in his walk and ways. He knows his friend is coming, and is satisfied with the knowledge of it. The second man is so affected by the sure tidings of his friend's return that he goes to meet him. He soon finds his way to the seaport, and determines there to remain till his friend comes. He is waiting. Day after day passes, and the friend has not come. Still he waits. Though he is often seen occupying his time and means in self-pleasing, he waits on day by day thinking often of his friend, and his interests. But the third man not only goes to the seaport, and awaits the arrival of his coming friend, but he looks over the sea many times a day, makes every enquiry as to the expected vessel, and carefully inspects the passengers to see if his friend is among them. This one is watching. Our Lord would have the hope of His coming so real in us that it should stir our hearts to go out to meet Him - to be watching as well as waiting, and that not on special occasions merely, but as the posture of our souls continually; thus giving a colour, unconsciously perhaps, yet nevertheless really, to all our ways. Nothing can be more practical or more eminently sanctifying - "He that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He is pure." (1 John 3:3). This is more than knowledge of doctrine, for it is divine truth received into the heart in faith, so that the heart goes out after the Lord Himself with longing desire and expectation of seeing Him; it is the "blessed hope" of our souls, and He would have us "abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit." "This hope," then, when it is a reality in our hearts, "purifieth" even as He is pure. It purifies not according to the low standard of Christendom's estimate of Christianity, but owns no standard of purity but Christ - "as He is pure." It teaches us to separate ourselves from every thing, whether men call it good or bad, that is unsuited to His mind who is the "holy" and the "true." May He graciously strengthen this hope in us. What need have we to cry in these closing days, "Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe"?

Those who are able to go back fifty years or more in marking the ways of God, cannot have forgotten the striking effects of the preaching of the Lord's coming at that time. Those who announced the midnight cry, "Behold the Bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet Him," carried conviction to the hearers by their walk and ways that they were themselves getting ready to meet Him. It was the coming of the Lord Himself they had before them. Then it was not so much a question of doctrine, but of meeting Him. One and another saw it plainly taught in the Word as the blessed hope of the Church, and marvelled that it had been lost so long. Many received the truth in faith, and therefore acted on it. Like the Thessalonian believers, they waited for God's Son from heaven, though their views were very defective as to details concerning it; nevertheless, the Lord Himself was their hope and expectation. So plainly and solemnly was He set forth as quickly coming, both in preaching and teaching, that sinners were aroused in conscience, and cried out, "What must I do to be saved?" and believers almost everywhere were aroused from slumber. Wherever the testimony went forth there was almost always an awakening, though it was resisted by some of the wise of this world, and ridiculed by others. Many believers were so stirred in heart and conscience as to desire in all their ways to be "found of Him in peace, without spot and blameless." It was to them truly a purifying hope. At whatever cost to themselves, they felt the preceptive teaching of Scripture to "do all for the glory of God" must be carried out; so that a deep heart-searching enquiry was awakened in souls in many places as to whether they were ready, not merely as to title, but as to walk and service, to meet the Bridegroom? It was not death they looked for, not judgment, but the Lord Himself, their loving Bridegroom, to take His loved ones to be for ever with Himself.

The effects were such as might have been expected. Many felt they were in positions and circumstances which were not for the glory of God, and gave them up. Godly ministers relinquished valuable livings, and those among them who had "gifts" used them as the Lord opened their path. Military and naval officers resigned their rank and pay. Those who resided in large and expensive houses were content with smaller, to enable them to minister more largely to the Lord's servants and the poor members of the body of Christ. Costly furniture was disposed of. Ladies who before had moved in fashion and elegance, sold their expensive dresses, jewellery, ornaments, and other superfluities, in order to minister with the proceeds to the distressed in the household of faith. Even in the humbler classes, and those whose means were narrow, consciences were exercised that house and household might be so orderly as to have the Lord's approval; and many a household servant had thus the Lord before her in her daily work. No doubt there was also with this failure and mistake, but many of those here referred to were personally known to us; and their devotedness and testimony continued much the same during a long life.

Nor is it remarkable that the hope of our Lord's coming thus solemnly dawning on a heart fresh and fervent toward Him should produce such results; for how could it be otherwise? Again and again have we seen the same thing, when souls have rightly had the possibility of the Lord's coming at any time before them. It must be so as long as the imperishable truth of God declares, "He that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure." Thank God the reality of this has not wholly died out. His Spirit still works, and His word is as authoritative and unalterable as ever. But, alas! instead of some now, who accept the doctrine of our Lord's coming, taking up their cross to suffer with Christ and for Christ in this time of His rejection by the world, they appear to be on good terms with the world, are gratified at their own progress in it, and long to see their children advanced positionally beyond themselves in it, and yet talk not a little about the Lord's coming. It sometimes looks as if they were bringing back again those very things which many faithfully separated from fifty years ago. May God graciously arouse us all not only to truly hold the doctrine, but to be lovingly waiting and watching for Him who says, "Surely I come quickly!" H. H. Snell.

Man demands state verify birth records or remove senator from ballots

In a second lawsuit challenging Barack Obama's "natural born" citizenship, a Washington resident is demanding officials review original or certified birth documents for the Democratic Party presidential candidate.

Steven Marquis of Fall City, Wash., filed suit Oct. 9 in Washington State Superior Court, calling for Secretary of State Sam Reed to determine whether Obama is a citizen before Election Day. Marquis released a statement saying the state has the authority to "prevent the wholesale disenfranchisement of voters" who might have otherwise had the opportunity to choose a qualified candidate should records show Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen.

He indicated that his requests for certification of the birth documents were rejected by Washington's Office of the Secretary of State. Marquis requested an injunction to force the office to confirm Obama's U.S. citizenship or remove his name from Washington ballots. He said the agency is "specifically charged with certifying and guaranteeing the veracity of official documents and overseeing the elections to wit the people's confidence in the fundamental aspect of democracy is maintained."

However, Marquis continued, "To date, in this regard, Secretary of State Sam Reed has not carried out that fundamental duty."

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said all European Union nations backed radical restructuring of global institutions like the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. He called for a meeting "preferably in New York, where everything started" and said it should lead to "a new capitalism."

"I believe there is scope for agreement in the next few days that we will have an international meeting to take common action ... for very large and very radical changes," [UK; Gordon] Brown told reporters before meeting for talks on the financial crisis with other EU leaders, who on Wednesday endorsed a $2.3 trillion continentwide emergency bailout for the banking sector.

"This fundamental reform can't stop at Europe. The economy is global; no country can protect itself alone," he said. He demanded that new global rules cover all financial institutions — including hedge funds.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the G-8 — the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Russia — and emerging economies had to make decisions "so that something like this can never happen again."

Oct. 13 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Federal Reserve led an unprecedented push by central banks to flood financial markets with dollars, backing up government efforts to restore confidence in the banking system.

The ECB [European Central bank], the Bank of England and the Swiss central bank will offer unlimited dollar funds in auctions with maturities of seven days, 28 days and 84 days at a fixed interest rate, the Washington-based Fed said today. A couple more things to note. Language is always telling and here is no exception. What was previously called a 'bailout' has now been renamed. Now it is a "rescue plan". All these tremendous and permanent life-as-we-know-it changing events are to now be seen as a 'rescue' of the people. The financial system of the country and the world has now effectively been taken over by the self-proclaimed rescuers, the saviours of the world. It will take much more work certainly before the system is complete, more smoke and mirrors will be needed as it is all brand new, but the important thing to see is that the 'saviours' have essentially gained control.
