The Holy Ghost The Original King-James-Only -- No King James, No Holy Ghost!

Why Is The Holy Ghost Banished From All Non-KJV 'Bibles'

The Holy Ghost - the third Person of the Godhead. On this subject there is something particularly fascinating with regard to the many so-called modern translations of the Holy Bible. Right to the point it is this: the Holy Ghost is nowhere to be found in them. Most often the name of the Holy Ghost has been replaced by the term Holy Spirit. The significance of this is the subject of this post and is discussed below. Not one non-KJV 'bible' has a single mention of the name "Holy Ghost". Completely gone. The images below demonstrate this, showing the word-search results for "Holy Ghost" in the NIV, NASB, NKJV, and the ESV. Zero zero zero and zero. By contrast, the name "Holy Ghost" is found in the King James Version in 89 verses [90 times total - Acts 19:2 found 2x]:

[screenshot-images from BlueLetterBible]
NIV Non-Inspired-Version - Zero: The Holy Ghost has nothing to do with it
NASB Not-A-Solid-Bible - Zero: The Holy Ghost has nothing to do with it
NKJV Neutered-King-James-Version - Zero: The Holy Ghost has nothing to do with it
ESV Error-Saturated-Version - Zero: the Holy Ghost has nothing to do with it
Authorized Version King James Bible - 89 verses: The Holy Ghost has everything
to do with it. He is the Author of it - 2Peter 1:21

[*note: The Holy Ghost is named in 89 verses in the KJV but 90 times total - Acts 19:2 is 2x. Interesting thing about this verse: It is from the book of Acts account of the apostle Paul's encounter with a group of "about twelve" men in Ephesus who knew only "John's baptism" - they had never heard "whether there be any Holy Ghost". Which is exactly what happens to users of so-called modern-versions.  (Acts 19:1-4, 5-7) ]

The subject of the name "Holy Ghost" as opposed to the term Holy Spirit is a well debated issue. As now known after viewing the above images, the Holy Ghost is found in 89 verses in the KJV, only in the New Testament of course. Of course the KJV does not exclusively use only the name "Holy Ghost". It is interesting to note though that the exact term "Holy Spirit" is used only four times in the KJV New Testament. Of these four instances, three times the word holy is lower case, written "holy Spirit". Each of the four are indirect references specific to the context and do not refer to the 'person' of the Holy Ghost. Other references like for example "the Spirit" are used elsewhere. In this we discover a distinction made. This distinction between the name Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit or other references is an important one. Without entering here into the deep-theological contorting that usually accompanies the debate on this topic, ultimately the critical point of the matter has to do with the 'personhood' of the third person of the Godhead. Which is to say that removing the name of "the Holy Ghost" from scripture is ultimately an attack against the 'personhood' of the third Person of the Godhead. How so? Keeping it brief, "the Holy Ghost", rendered exactly that way 90 times out of 90 in the KJV (in 89 verses), is a proper noun. A name of a person, in other words. By contrast, the Holy Spirit, or 'the Spirit' - phrased differently often, is not so specific. Can seem impersonal, if wanted to be, which in actuality seems to be the exact intent of the non-KJV Wescott-Hort Holy Ghost-less pseudo-bibles.

With careful reading it may not be difficult to ascertain in each specific instance why the KJV says 'the Holy Ghost' in one verse, while in another we read something like "be filled with the Spirit" Eph. 5:18. Generally speaking the answer seems to be the issue of the sovereign actings of the Holy Ghost as God the third Person vs. other references relating to His office and/or the 'power of God' in general. For instance this verse Acts 13:2 "As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them". Now comparing that verse with the above mentioned Ephesians 5:18 "be filled with the Spirit" there is a difference. In Acts 13:2 it is God the Holy Ghost giving a direct command. In Ephesians 5:18 it is a directive to a believer to seek to be filled with "the Spirit". As no person can command the Holy Ghost, the verse cannot then say 'be filled with the Holy Ghost'...as if man could somehow direct the Person of God the Holy Ghost. No, man cannot direct God the Holy Ghost and get himself 'filled' when and if he wants to, but he can yield to and seek to "be filled with the Spirit". Note the meaning here is a reference to the 'power of God', not the person of the Holy Ghost.

At any rate, along these lines is where it seems the distinction is made in the KJV between the use of the name "the Holy Ghost" and all other references to the power or 'Spirit of God'. God the third Person who commands and acts sovereignly is clearly identified in the AV authorized version as the Holy Ghost. And it is exactly this distinction that is completely stripped away in every other version. This can only be seen as a direct attack on the Person of God the Holy Ghost, as well the triune nature of the Godhead. There is much more to this subject it should be pointed out, but to go into all of it now is not the purpose here. The main purpose of this post is just to bring to light the fact that the Holy Ghost is missing completely from every non-KJV. Few probably even realize this, and it needs to be realized. And while we're at it another thing that should be realized is that this distinction provides another demonstration of the perfection and beauty of the Word of God found only in the King James Bible.

One more thought. Did man remove the Holy Ghost from his corrupted pseudo-bibles, or did the Holy Ghost remove Himself? The latter can be the only correct answer. He has nothing to do with them. Anointing on them? Never.

The Holy Ghost - the original King-James-Only.

  1. Giving all glory to the Lord Jesus Christ, after reading this article, I thought about William Tyndale and all the martyrs as I was on the way to the funeral of an elderly Christian friend at a small church. I checked and sure enough they use the NIV. I did not stay for the service. Every day they want you to compromise your faith away in one way or another. I kept asking myself how could they be filled with the Holy Spirit and be led of God?

  2. Tom,

Regarding your commentaries in regard to the NIV (non-inspired), other Westcott and Hort "pseudo-bibles” and the Holy Ghost being removed from them.

Did you know Virginia Mollenkott, a lesbian that was consulted on the NIV?

"Mollenkott is a member of NOW, the Women’s Institute for Freedom of the Press, and the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. She also serves as a manuscript evaluator for the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion; and was a member of the translation committee for the New International Version of the Bible (1970 - 1978);"

In addition Westcott’s own words prove he was a worshiper of Mary. (Mariolatry /Queen of Heaven).

Quote from Westcott, “I wish I could see to what forgotten truth Mariolatry bears witness; and how we can practically set forth the teaching of miracles.”

pg. 160 Life and Letters of Brooke Foss Westcott, Sometime Bishop of Durham By Arthur Westcott.

And Hort utterly denies the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Quote from Hort, “The fact is, I do not see how God’s justice can be satisfied without every man’s suffering in his own person the full penalty for his sins.”

  3. Anon, (directly above)

re: would-be counterfeiters of the Word of God, pseudo-bible pushers...

From the 1st century to Westcott/Hort to the present day, all inclusive,

    one verse comes to mind

    - where the Lord Jesus Christ, he the very Word incarnate, described those who 'hated him without a cause' [John 15:25] as 'ye serpents, ye generation of vipers' - Matthew 23:33

  4. You're quite brazen in your demanding of the Holy Ghost into man's traditions.

The Holy Ghost blows like the wind. No human knows where they will go---the wind OR the Holy Ghost.

    Thanks so much though.

    (Sorry for the repetition.)

  6. What's your understanding of the Holy Ghost? is he a being? Is He a personality? Those who say the Holy Ghost is a being wouldn't agree with Trinitarianism that says the Holy Ghost is a person that proceeds out of the Father and Son but not a being as that would equal tri theism

    ReplyDelete
  7. SR (directly above),

The doctrine of the trinity - how the battle to define (or destroy more accurately) it has raged throughout the centuries. And how can the trinity be defined by men as the Scripture does not define the trinity for man. The Scripture merely states the fact:

Which is one God...in three persons: Father, Son, Holy Ghost - each in Scripture demonstrating all the characteristics of 'personhood' - while at the same time the Scriptures portraying all to be of one essence (for lack of a better word).

This is not "tritheism"...which makes the 'one God in three persons' into three (tri) separate Gods. Tritheism is the doctrine of the trinity distorted to the point of heresy.

This is very basic, but 'the trinity' is God's revelation of Himself to mankind. Not 'explained', just stated. Scripture does not really go past this point...so why should man think he can...or needs to.

To somehow satisfy himself or reconcile to his understanding what he thinks God should be? Will man decide what God can or cannot be? This is the foolish pride of the creature.

Anyway, to answer, yes, Father Son, and Holy Ghost - One God in three persons.

Great is the mystery of godliness - 1Tim. 3:16

And how could it, or why should it, be any other way.
