A former chairman of the Bar Council is calling for an international court for the environment to punish states that fail to protect wildlife and prevent climate change.
The first role of the new body would be to enforce international agreements on cutting greenhouse gas emissions set to be agreed next year.
But the court would also fine countries or companies that fail to protect endangered species or degrade the natural environment and enforce the "right to a healthy environment".
The innovative idea is being presented to an audience of politicians, scientists and public figures for the first time at a symposium at the British Library.
Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, has agreed the concept of an international court will be taken into account when considering how to make these international agreements on climate change binding.

re: enforce the "right to a healthy environment"
The unrelenting campaign of the "climate change" hoax is worldwide in scope and being systematically advanced now to the point that apparently the time has come to float the idea of an international court which would exist to "enforce" the green cause, and to "punish states" and "fine countries" that might not be so nice to 'Mr. Green'.
The absurd movement to "transform the rights of nature from mere property to a rights bearing entity" is already well underway, from the U.S. Congress:
Global Warming Propaganda Goes Nutso 6-23-08 "James Hansen, one of the world's leading climate scientists, will today call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel companies to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature..."Speaking before Congress again, he will accuse the chief executive officers of companies such as ExxonMobil and Peabody Energy..." ...to entire countries re-writing their constitutions:
Ecuador Gives 'Rights' to Nature 10-5-08 Global Exchange FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 28, 2008 California—Today, the people of Ecuador voted to recognize the inalienable rights belonging to ecosystems in their new constitution. A set of groundbreaking articles that transform the status of nature from mere property to a rights-bearing entity are now incorporated into the national charter. Ecuador, one of the world's most biodiverse places, has set a precedent for other nations who have struggled against multinational corporations' exploitation, which has turned ecosystems and whole communities into sacrifice zones. Very briefly, The reality of the international green movement has nothing to do whatsoever with the "saving the planet" pitch as we are to believe, but rather has everything to do with restricting and regulating every facet of life on earth as the means to take control over and ownership of every square inch of this planet. It is nothing less than an absolute and total "land grab", and is being accomplished through the guise of "environmentalism". Every single square inch...believe it or not.
The 'beast' will own it all.
