Darkest day for Scottish banking as the Bank of Scotland faces its end: Scotsman.com
"FOR Scotland's oldest bank, it was the suddenness of its rout that stunned. That and the silence at the top. That and the invisibility of leadership. That and the short-selling frenzy that descended on HBOS shares yesterday, like vultures on a corpse."
"Today, the fate of HBOS, the savings of its 22 million customers, the prospects for its 72,000 staff and the final reckoning for its 1.2 million hapless investors – whose shares have been savaged – rest on the merger with rival Lloyds TSB. Yesterday, in conditions of near pandemonium, shares in HBOS had by far their worst day since the onset of the credit crisis. Monday and Tuesday were train-wreck enough – the value of HBOS had plunged by £7 billion by Tuesday night."
"AND it may not be the only one. A source familiar with the situation yesterday warned that Scotland may be in danger of losing both its banks. "This is a revolutionary day for the banking sector," the source said. "Nothing is ever going to be the same. Look at the state of the markets. There's still another shoe to fall – a merger of Royal Bank of Scotland with HSBC.""

re: 'combined bank'...deal brokered by Gordon Brown
Financial collapses and global consolidation...happenstance or choreographed?
Five months ago there was a lot of talk between London and Washington about (quotes below) "developing plans..to regulate the banking system", "urgent reform of global financial institutions", "global rather than national supervision of financial markets", "new international institutions", "reframing the international architecture", putting forth an "historic effort", etc. U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown figured prominently in those discussions:
*posted 4/1/08 on global finances: going international
"George W. Bush, US president, and Gordon Brown, UK prime minister, have agreed to step up co-operation over the crisis in financial markets. They are setting up a joint working group which will develop plans to monitor and regulate the banking system."

"WATFORD (Reuters) - Centre-left leaders from around the world called on Saturday for urgent reform of global financial institutions to prevent a recurrence of the credit crisis."
"Brown is pressing for global, rather than national supervision of financial markets and for banks to come clean on the losses they have suffered due to the sub-prime crisis."
"My feeling is that we are now reaching a stage where it (an agreement) could happen," he said.
--------------------
*posted 4/19/08 In a remarkable speech given in the U.S., Brown called for a new 'Global Covenant':
“We urgently need to step out of the mind-set of competing interests and instead find our common interests — and we must summon up the best instincts and efforts of humanity in a cooperative effort to build new international rules and institutions for the new global era,” Mr. Brown said. He was in Boston the day after visiting Washington to meet with President Bush and the three major candidates for the presidency.
“For the first time in human history, we have the opportunity to come together around a global covenant, to reframe the international architecture and build the truly global society,” he said.
“And now is an opportunity for an historic effort in cooperation: a new dawn in collaborative action between America and Europe.”

According to today's posted article, and very interesting to note, this sudden and dramatic "combined bank" deal between the Bank of Scotland and Lloyds to create a "lending and savings giant"...."can be traced" to Brown also. Quoting from the 4-5-08 posted article, Brown said, in regard to the "urgent reform of [the] global financial institutions": "My feeling is that we are now reaching a stage where it (an agreement) could happen".
One last quote from the posted article: "Nothing is ever going to be the same".

Giants roamed the earth once before, and attempted to rule and own it then also. But then something happened...a flood:
Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days (Noah's); and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown... 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 13 And God said unto Noah... 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
Matt. 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
