This idea is not all that uncomm...re: sinless-ness

This idea is not all that uncommon. It is, though, completely erroneous. Ironically, as soon as someone makes that statement they just committed a sin - i.e. they just lied. The proof text is 1John 1:8

'If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us' [cf. 1John 1:10]

Important to note that 1John is written not to unbelievers but to 'born again Christians' (1John 1:1-3)

The point of that statement in vs. 8 is to highlight the preceding verse (1John 1:7), which teaches the believer that the blood of Christ continually "cleanseth us" [note present tense; and "us" - Christians] who meet the conditions mentioned in the verse.

Continual cleansing of sin by the blood -this is God's provided remedy for Christians when they sin - not only sins of commission but also of omission. Alleluia.

The key to this issue is to understand that while Christians do of course sin, the truly 'born again' Christian is no longer under the 'dominion' of sin:

Romans 6:8 'For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace'

An unbeliever, including an unregenerate professing-Christian, is under the 'dominion' of sin. In other words, he is totally controlled by sin. His flesh nature can only sin [Gal. 5:19-21], and he is a servant of it - John 8:34.

A truly regenerate i.e. born-again Christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God - made a partaker of the divine nature [2Peter 1:4]. A true believer can never again be brought under the 'dominion of sin', because when one is truly born again, he at that point comes under the dominion of the God the Holy Spirit...

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son' - Col. 1:13

The issue is not sinless-ness, but 'dominion'. 'Sin shall not have dominion' over the truly regenerate.tom m.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15599745604750315747noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5190850745642630460.post-26095793088471899682015-06-01T09:25:49.593-10:002015-06-01T09:25:49.593-10:00I am absolutely in agreement that we are called to...I am absolutely in agreement that we are called to be holy, and that, as followers of Christ, we should walk, no longer after the flesh, but after the Spirit, separate from the world, and separate unto God and to following him in all his ways.

I have come across some people in recent days, though, who believe that a born again Christian can never sin. If we sin even once, they say, we are not truly saved. I was wondering if you would not mind sharing your thoughts on that subject.

Thanks, SueChristsfreeservnthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05436752240451893757noreply@blogger.com
