Singapore Airlines launches ‘Covid-19 passport,’ describing digital health ID as part of the ‘new normal’
Singapore Airlines has become the first major carrier to introduce a digital certificate used to verify a passenger’s Covid-19 test results and vaccination status, in what the company described as the new normal for travel.
It announced on Wednesday [12-23-20] that it had started the world’s first trials of a “health verification process” developed by a major airline lobby, the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The app, known as Travel Pass, is being used on flights operated by Singapore Airlines from Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. The company said that it could extend the program to other cities if the trials are successful.
The airline said that Covid-19 tests and vaccinations will be “an integral part” of air travel going forward and that the certificates were an ideal way to “validate a passenger’s health credentials.” The company hailed the new ID as a way to use digital technologies to create a “more seamless experience” for customers amid “the new normal.”
Margaret Tan, aviation security official from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), applauded the rollout and expressed hope that “other countries and airlines” would adopt a similar scheme in order to ensure passengers have “necessary health credentials to protect public health.”

The clinical trials came out yesterday, and there’s some really bad news in the clinical trials. The vaccine was given to 45 volunteers in Seattle. And you have to remember this, Polly, those volunteers were all people who were super, super healthy. And it was distributed to three different groups: the first group of 15 got the low-dose, the second group got a medium dose, and the third group got a high dose. And here’s where the really bad signal came in, is that the high-dose group of the 15 volunteers who got the guinea pigs, human guinea pigs, who got that high dose, three of them got seriously ill, so serious adverse events. And under FDA’s rubric, what that means is, they got so sick that they required medical intervention or hospitalization.

And that is bad news, because that’s 20% of the people who got that vaccine, these very, very healthy cohorts. There were no people in that group who looked like American outlooks. There was no people with diabetes, no people with rheumatoid arthritis, no people with autoimmune diseases or neurodevelopmental diseases, or with alcohol problems or smokers, or all of those people with comorbidities or chronic disease, which now effect 54% of Americans, were excluded. This looks like a group of… this looks like they tested it on the Avengers, our really super-healthy group of people. And 20% of those people became severely ill. What that means is, if you extrapolate out to the population that Bill Gates is targeting, which is 7.5 billion people, you would make one-fifth of them, about 1.5 billion people, seriously ill, probably much more ill than these people got, because these people were very, very healthy individuals.
And you’d be giving it to people all over the world, people who live in poverty, people who have comorbidities.
