Calvary Chapel's Chuck Smith Bows To Mormon God; Tells 10-yr Old Girl "Good Mormons...Will Be In Heaven"

This is quoted from the 11-9-11 "Pastor's Perspective" call-in radio program at 36:10 min. The audio recording is: here
***
36:10 Don Stewart: To Cheyenne Wyoming...we have Alexa on the line....

10 yr. old Alexa: My aunt Valerie(?) doesn't really know the book of Mormon...so will she still go to hell?

Don Stewart: Ok good question...Alexa's got an aunt, Chuck, who is a mormon and wants to know if the mormon will go to heaven...

Chuck Smith: It all depends on their relationship with Jesus Christ...and there are a lot of good Mormons who do believe in Jesus and I believe they will be in heaven, but you know we can't do it on own righteousness or own works you know we have to depend on Jesus for our entrance into heaven...[end]

Pseudo-christian Joel Osteen did the same thing a couple of weeks ago:

Joel Osteen Denies Christ - Says Mormonism Is Christian; Book Of Jude Comes Alive 10-25-11 "In the book of Jude the Word of God speaks of a time when apostate teachers would virtually 'overwhelm the system', so to speak, completely taking over the outward visible professing Christian church and utterly corrupting it. These are described as.."ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." [Jude 4]...Joel Osteen is fulfilling Jude's prophecy. In equating Christianity and the Mormon religion, which is actually an outright denial of true biblical Christianity, especially with regard to the attributes of God and the deity of Christ, Osteen is now openly "denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ". There is no way around it." [see post]

There is no way around it for Chuck Smith either. The "Jesus" of the Mormon religion is a blasphemous denial of the truth of the person and of the deity of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and of the efficacy of his blood shed on the cross at Calvary, as every 'preacher' of the gospel should be well aware.
[For information see: Mormonism in a Nutshell]

It is understandably difficult when someone that has been looked up to and held in high regard for many years proves to be something other than was thought. Even more so when that person is a figurehead like Calvary Chapel's Chuck Smith. But the reality here is that it is simply not possible for a man who rightly understands and believes the Word of God, and is filled with the Spirit of God, and himself truly knows the risen Son of God the second person of the Triune Godhead to make the statement that Chuck Smith did. Impossible.

1John 2:21 "...no lie is of the truth". With his statement to the ten year old girl and untold thousands of radio listeners, Chuck Smith, like Joel Osteen, absolutely denied "the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ". And, like Osteen, is fulfilling the prophecy of the book of Jude. Again, there is no way around it and no possible positive construct that can be put upon it either. It is not the work of God, but is the work of the "father of lies". Sobering reality.

Note also that co-host Don Stewart made no objection of any sort.

Calvary Chapelers, it is time to face the hard truth. The Calvary Chapel movement, led by Chuck Smith, has proven, once again, to be part of the biblically foretold apostasy that would signify the end of the church age. Separating yourself from it is the only possible answer. To ignore the facts is to also deny the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Rev. 18:4

clearly years of compromise and programing are revealing the fruit of Chuck Smith's false teaching. Calvary Chapel has been a success at getting the sheep so preoccupied with Social Justice issues, "Americana," and loving everyone to death (hell). Line upon line precept upon precept? Simply teaching God's word simply? Avoiding the word Repent and sin and joining hands with Ecumenical men and movements is not the Whole Word of God. The people cried for a King and they got Saul, the sheeple cried for a way out of "Organized" religion and they got a cult leader and a fraud. Wake up people before it's too late.

Is it possible for a man after God's own heart to speak in error? Did not Jesus rebuke Peter, saying "Get behind me Satan." Did not Peter lie and say that he did not know Christ?

If every word we ever spoke were to be published, would we not be under the same condemnation as you have placed on others?

Before you label Chuck Smith a fraud, should you not first examine your own faults? Who are we to judge another's servant, do they not have a judge and will they not stand or fall before Him?

I was once a Roman Catholic. I was born again while a Roman Catholic. As a Roman Catholic I loved Jesus. As a follower of Christ, I was led out of Roman Catholicism. Is it not possible that Chuck Smith was speaking to this little girl concerning her relative that if any person, be they led by Christ, they will find eternal life?

Peter, before the cross and the resurrection, which led up to the day of Pentecost and the filling of the Holy Ghost, did in fact deny Jesus.

Peter's denial was before conversion though, which is why the Lord Jesus Christ said this to him just a short time before he did deny him thrice (Luke 22:34):

Luke 22:31 ¶ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

After the cross and the resurrection and the day of Pentecost (Acts 2) and the filling of the Holy Ghost, Peter was a "new creature in Christ" and "endued with power from on high". Luke 24:49

The apostle Paul warned believers:

"For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him" 2Cor. 11:4

Mormonism without question teaches "another Jesus", and any who would believe in this entity will in fact have to "receive another spirit", which things come out of "another gospel" i.e. the book of Mormon.

Chuck Smith made the statement that "a lot of good Mormons who believe in 'Jesus'...will be in heaven", not ex-Mormons who discovered that the Mormon Jesus is a counterfeit and came out and were born again will be in heaven, which by the way it seems that that was really what the 10-yr. old girl was asking.

And what does being a "good" believer in "another Jesus" have to do with anything? Nothing at all for there are none good: Romans 3:12 'They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one."

Quoting from above: 1John 2:21 "...no lie is of the truth".

Hi Tom, I think that you are failing to understand what Chuck said. He began his statement by saying that, "It all depends on her relationship with Jesus Christ." Like you, I also find fault with his statement that there will be a lot of good mormons in heaven but I understand what he was saying. The church that we attend holds no bearing on our eternal salvation. It all depends on whether or not we as individuals have a personal relationship with the one and only True God through His Son Jesus Christ (Rom.10:9-10). I understand that most mormons believe in a "false" Jesus that is NOT the same Jesus taught of in the word of God. But, is it possible, for someone to go to a mormon church, who got genuinly saved and transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, and be deceived into thinking that somehow the Mormon church is actually Christian? Of course it's possible! That's why we are exhorted throughout the New Testament not to be deceived by false teachers and false prophets. Do I agree with Chuck's statement that there will be alot of good Mormons in heaven? Absolutely not! But do I believe that we are saved by grace alone thru faith alone as taught in Eph. 2:8-9? Absolutely I do. I guess my caution to you is to be careful not to judge others too quickly. Jesus warned us about going around and pointing out other people's faults when there are many sins in our own lives that we haven't dealt with (Matt 7:1-5). Is what Chuck said inorrect here? I think so. But does that make him a devil worshipping pagan because he had 1 lapse of faith? I don't think so. Check it out, Peter also had a lapse of faith AFTER he was saved and filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, so much so that Paul openly rebuiked him (Gal 2:11-16). My advise to you is to approach Chuck personally and confront him on what he said. But don't write blogs slandering his name when you don't understand what it was that Chuck was getting at. The heart of his message was that the only thing that saves us is the blood of Jesus shed for our sins. Believeing in Him is our only means of salvation not what church we go to and not what we say on a radio program. Remember the words of James, brother, "Let every man be swift to listen, SLOW TO SPEAK, and slow to wrath, for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God." James 1:19-20. Blessings on you, thanks for your zeal for the Lord, but don't neglect grace or we become like Christian Pharisees.

Anon,

re: most mormons believe in a "false" Jesus

No, all Mormons believe in a false 'Jesus'.

re: "...is it possible, for someone to go to a mormon church, who got genuinly saved and transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, and be deceived into thinking that somehow the Mormon church is actually Christian? Of course it's possible!"

Here is where your argument is fundamentally flawed. 1Thes. 1:8,9 shows us that one of the first signs of a person "who got genuinely saved and transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit" ...is that they "turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God". It is no evidence of the new birth if a person is still worshiping idols, or a false god who is the spirit-brother of Lucifer, and has still not turned to the living and true God. The work of the Holy Spirit in a truly regenerate person, in every case, will be to reveal the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in truth. John 14:17; 16:13,14-15

So no, actually it is not possible for a "genuinely saved person" to be deceived into believing that any false religion, including the Mormon religion, is Christian. To say otherwise is to sleight God the Holy Spirit and say that He is unable to do what He promised. Many religions have a false 'jesus'. Nothing special about Mormons in that respect. Much of the outward professing Christian church today has a false jesus for that matter. These are the ones who will say: "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? ...only to hear: "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" Matt. 7:22-23 ...Attaching the name of Jesus to religious activity is not salvation.

These are the things the little girl should have been told, and the multitude of radio listeners. It was was a public forum, and if in a public forum, a public critique is perfectly acceptable. The issue in question is critical..Galatians 1 tells us "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed"

"there are a lot of good Mormons who do believe in Jesus and I believe they will be in heaven" is another gospel. It is no light thing to be excused away by saying 'grace grace'. To warn about such gross error is absolutely needful, according to the Word of God, even if it comes from an angel from heaven.

Satan (Lucifer) also has faith in jesus...the one he created to deceive the masses.

John 3:16 is only true if you are 'believing' in the true Jesus. The Christ, the savior of humanity. That Jesus is the one and only God.

So no, Mormons that trust in "jesus" are not following John 3:16...because they believe in "a different jesus" and not in Jesus the Christ (the one true God).

Chuck Smith had Rick Warren on "pastor's perspective", the radio call-in show of the official Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa radio station. Sickening.

Thanks for passing that information on. Maybe it will help some Calvary Chapel-ers to face the hard truth -
