Trouble In Paradise

Wayne Cordeiro, New Hope, and the emergent heresy/apostasy

Red alert for New Hope Churches in Hawaii.

Perilous times are here. New Hope head pastor Wayne Cordeiro has evidently joined the "emergent church" apostasy as evidenced by his appearance at this "Awaken conference" (below), which reads like a who's who of the self-styled 'emergent' church (research it). If you are a member or even casually attending, it is of the utmost importance for you to understand what is happening here because these self-proclaimed so-called spiritual leaders are on "a journey into the imagination"....and you too will be 'led' together with them into "their imaginations" if you don't 'wake up' and get yourself, your family, and your friends out from under their apostate teaching!

Too strong?

Not at all, when you truly understand the depth of this 'emergent' delusion and how ungodly this movement is. Please, we implore you to read through this brief posting, and then follow all the links to see for yourself whether or not these things are true. Your very salvation is at risk!

Too strong?

No, no , no! See for yourself:
----------------------------------------
from conference website:
AWAKEN 2008 April 1-3: An Unleashing of Imagination and Possibilities

"Awaken is more than a conference - it's a journey into the imagination of spiritual leaders like Erwin McManus, Bill Hybels, Wayne Cordeiro, Nancy Beach, Dan Kimball, Lee Strobel, Ralph Winter, Henry Cloud, Nancy Ortberg, Mark Batterson, and more."

"Stop thinking outside the box. Awaken is for spiritual artisans and cultural architects who are ready to erase the lines of the box and unleash imagination and possibilities. Awaken will challenge you, inspire you, shake you up, awaken your dreams and passions, and free you to create
your future."
--------------------------------------------------
Who is Erwin McManus?

Erwin McManus is the catalyst behind "Awaken". What is "Awaken"? Go here to have a look. Be forewarned though, there is nothing here even remotely biblical:

Quoted from site: "Erwin is the catalyst behind Awaken, a collaboration of dreamers committed to creating environments that expand imagination and unleash creativity. Convinced that the world is changed by dreamers and visionaries, Awaken serves the purpose of history by maximizing the divine potential in every human being.": source

re: "maximizing the divine potential in every human being" (this is the original lie spoken by the serpent to Eve: "ye shall be as gods" (Gen. 3:5). go here for more info.

It is not possible to get any further away from the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ than this!

Again, nothing even remotely biblical at all about "Awaken". In fact, is has much more in common with Oprah Winfrey, the "High Priestess" of universal global spirituality, and her latest undertaking, which is also styled as an "awakening":

Oprah Winfrey class 700,000 commit to exploring East-West-hybrid mysticism: article

"a free, 10-week online class taught by Winfrey and Eckhart Tolle, the German-born spiritual teacher and author of the current Oprah's Book Club pick "A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purposes.." see: oprah-alert "
"Awaken", or "awakening", is the term used by the 'emergent/new-age/global-spirituality' proponets to promote the idea that mankind is spiritually evolving, and is now finally becoming aware (awakening) to the 'fact' of his own inherent divinity. As McManus says...the "divine potential in every human being".
Apparently, pastor Wayne Cordeiro of New Hope Oahu is "on board" with the program. New Hope Church, will you also be "awakened"?

------------------------------------------------
Church member/attender of New Hope Hawaii......here is a question that you must answer if you would be found faithful, understanding the need to "make your calling and election sure" (2 Peter 1:10), and not found to be of those that are abandoning "the faith which was once delivered unto the saints"...as "certain men" who have "crept in unawares" are doing here, openly it might be added, leading others astray along with themselves (Jude 3-4):

Question: What does "erasing the lines", "unleashing the imaginations", "creating you own future", etc. have to do with biblical Christianity?

Answer: Only this....these things diametrically oppose it on every point! As far as the east is from the west.

(again, follow all the links and learn all you can)

What to do?

Answer: Abandon is the answer...but not "the faith", abandon the ship! And if you can see the truth, then you will take as many as possible with you! There is no other answer.

I do understand where you're coming from, but it is presumptuous to say that they are preaching an apostate philosophy just because their phrasing sounds similar something on Oprah.

Unlike the new age movement or other cults, they are referring to the "divine potential" not as the godhood of man as say, a Mormon would, but rather they are emphasizing the potential giftings that God has divinely placed within us that have not yet been applied or discovered. It is an acknowledgment of God and not a denial.

I don't like the phrasing either because it does lend itself to new age comparisons, but unless you actually sit in a church, hear someone like Wayne Cordeiro or Lee Strobel speak, you will not really know their theology. And their theology is completely sound through and through. At no place in regards to any of the speakers or the leader of the conference, Erwin McManus, will you find an acknowledgment or inference that Jesus Christ is less than full and complete Lord over all or that the Bible is less than the inerrant and complete truth.

How's it going soda,

just a couple of points...

First,as to McManus statement of the "divine potential in every person",

that statement is patently false, scripturally speaking.

..and does not at all equate to this: (quoting you)

"potential giftings that God has divinely placed within us"

..that is a complete restating, changing the structure and meaning.

Second point is the clear statement of universalism, contained in McManus claim of "in every man".

Unregenerate man, every single one is "dead in trespasses and sins." There is no "divine potential" or giftings whatsoever in any man who is"dead in sins" (Eph. 2:1).

Natural man is in his carnal mind, and the "carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." (Rom. 8:7)

The natural man is "not subject to" and at "enmity with" God. He is capable only of "works of the flesh" (Gal. 5:19-21). They are, every one of them, really nasty.

What then can man "bring to the table"? Absolutely nothing at all... the indwelling Spirit of God alone can produce anything acceptable to the Lord in man....and that's the fruit "of the Spirit"...not of man. (Gal 5:22-23)

Cain tried to bring his "own fruit" (Gen. 4:3-5)

"No 'flesh' shall glory in his presence." (1 Cor. 1:29)

Only if, and when, a man is "quickened" or "born again" by the Spirit of God, is he then made a "partaker" of the divine nature. (2 peter 1:4). To partake speaks to being given, not "awakening" any dormant hidden 'god like' qualities, etc.

This is simply 'gospel truth'.

As to the "Awaken" conference website.., not to mention McManus personal "Awaken" site, the same line of thinking permeates throughout.. "creating your own future", "erasing the lines" (cf. Ps. 2:3), etc. and is exactly the same thing being said by Tolle, Oprah, "the Secret", and others.

It's no different, and is new age through and through,i.e. discovering your own "godhood", despite being "cloaked" in "christianese" (full and complete Lord, etc.) aka liberal/emergent theology.

Recommend reading the "false prophets" post below this one, showing how subtle the errorists can be.

For the record though, I've heard Cordeiro many times, radio, tv, and in person, and beg to differ on the "soundness"

Thanks for the reply. I'll think more about your points on McManus, although I am yet hesitant to attribute the worst to him. What I would ascribe to him at this point is that he likes to use verbal mumbo-jumbo which for me confuses his message more than makes it clear.

I would be interested to see a post on Wayne Cordeiro if you disagree with the soundness of the gospel he preaches.

hey Soda,

re: Cordeiro's teaching

Well, truth is i've been thinking the very same thing, that is, that it might be very worthwhile to look at Cordeiro's teaching and then:

"search the scriptures..(to see)..whether those things...(are) so. (Acts. 17:11)

May need to start working on that.
If the Lord wills of course.

check back if you like,
